Here at Harmony Senior Services, we love to highlight our residents and associates. Take a look at who was featured throughout our communities during the month of April.
Resident of the Month - Frank Sweeten
Frank was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey. He played football in high school and joined the Navy for three and a half years during World War II, working in electronics. After the war, he worked at AT&T for 40 years. While working there, he met Fran. And now, they are about to be married for 73 years. They raised three children, have four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In his retirement, he has enjoyed traveling, golf, and singing. Walk by the dining room during meal times and you might just hear him singing with some of the other residents.
Resident of the Month - John Stanton
John was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school he joined the Navy and served in the Underwater Demolition Team as a frogman during World War II. After the war, he went on to pursue his degree in architectural engineering at Catholic University. He got married, had a son, and also worked as an engineer for the Pentagon. John retired and moved to our community in 2016. He has filled his free time with sketching, collecting stamps, and researching the Civil War. We are thankful to have this friendly hero living here!
Associate of the Month - Ashley Flores
Ashley is a CNA at Harmony at Hope Mills. She enjoys being able to make the residents' day a little better. Being a positive impact on their lives gives her a reason to smile. Outside of work, she loves to explore the outdoors and go on adventures.
New Harmony Square Director - Tammy Wilson
Tammy has worked as a CNA for 18 years and has been an LPN for 16 years. She has always worked in all sorts of clinical environments including skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, home health agencies, and adult day homes. She is married with four children and eight grandchildren. Providing care and support at a time when someone needs a little bit extra is something she loves to do. To her, the residents are a never-ending story that is different every day.
New Dining Services Director - Eric Hoyer
Eric credits his mom for his love of cooking. He started when he was a child, cooking for his three brothers which flourished into a lifelong career. After he graduated from Paul Smith's College, his passion led him to Las Vegas where he cooked under the greatest chefs. He is married and has a daughter and moved to Virginia for peace of mind. He cooks with passion and teaches from the heart.
New Maintenance Director - Jason Holland
Jason was born and raised on a family farm on the southern end of Suffolk. He's been married to his wife Kim for 31 years. They have two sons, Jacob who is 24, and Bryce who is 21. He also has a miniature dachshund, Daisy. He's excited to be working at Harmony at Harbour View.
Resident Council - Ann Thompson, President & Bill Kantonen, Vice President
Ann has been a resident of Harmony for four and a half years. She enjoys making collages and leading meditation.
Bill has been a resident of Harmony for four years. He enjoys leading sing-alongs.
Other Resident Council Members
Jim Dellinger, Secretary/Treasurer, has been a resident of Harmony for three years. He was a small-town doctor for 50+ years. Maggie Palmer, Food Committee, has been a resident of Harmony for four and a half years. She enjoys staying active with swimming and walking. Eugenia Canady, Welcoming Committee, has been a resident of Harmony for four years. She enjoys reading and coloring. Carole Dougherty, Activities Committee, has been a resident of Harmony for two years. She loves to stay busy with all the residents. Carole Roskind, Assistant Treasurer, has been a resident of Harmony for two years. She enjoys meeting friendly and interesting people. Allen Holden, New Council Member, has been a resident of Harmony for four years. He enjoys doing puzzles. Joy Cowan, New Council Member, has been a resident of Harmony for one year. She enjoys reading, doing puzzles, and visiting with residents outdoors. Jack Bergwerk, New Council Member, has been a resident of Harmony for one and a half years. He enjoys reading and exercising.
Resident of the Month - Louise Montgomery
Louise is the type of sunshine that everybody needs in their life. She is extremely encouraging to her friends at Harmony and helps in any way possible. She adores her family more than anything and spends time with them going out to eat and shopping. She likes to get down and boogie to any tune. She is such a positive influence in the community and we are so grateful to have her with us!
New Activity Assistant - Riley Brown
Our new Activity Assistant, Riley, moved to Savannah to complete her internship for college graduation. With a degree in Recreational Therapy from Clemson University, she is all about catering activities to the residents' needs: cognitive, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. She loves getting to know and interact with all the residents. When she's not running from one end of Harmony to the other, you can find her spending time with her boyfriend and rescue dog, Milly.
New Bus Driver - Michael Parsons
Michael was born and raised in Charleston. For the past 29 years, he has worked for the Charleston newspaper. He will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for transportation to medical appointments and will be your chauffeur for all Friday outings.
Resident of the Month - Margaret Burns
Margaret always has a smile on her face and is so friendly to everyone who crosses her path throughout the day. She is one of our "Bingo Queens." We can always count on her to make an appearance if Bingo or music is involved.
Resident of the Month - Doris Zito
Doris is originally from the Bronx and moved to Charleston with her husband and five daughters. She was one of the first residents to move into Harmony at West Ashley in September 2018. You can always find her in the activity room or movie theater. She loves joining her neighbors in flower arranging, making jewelry, crocheting, and baking. She also loves to give back to the community. She enjoys baking homemade treats and crocheting blankets for other residents and staff.
Pet of the Month - Benji
Benji is this month's featured pet. He is an 11-year-old Shih Tzu Terrier. Benji's human, Gary, says he is very friendly and has never met a stranger.
