Residents of the Month - Hank & Sonja Scharles

Hank & Sonja joined our community in September after moving from Maryland. They have been married thirty-eight years after Hank proposed on their first date. Together they have five sons and two cats. Hank was a professor at Florida State University and Georgetown University before being offered a great job in Saudi Arabia. He and Sonja lived there for twenty years and spent a lot of that time traveling. Hank is now on the Board of Supervisors for Southern Maryland Libraries and Sonja is on the Board of Directors for United Way. They have always been charitable and we are so thankful to welcome them to our community.

Resident of the Month - Kitty Burnette

Kitty was born and raised in Petersburg, Virginia. She attended Virginia State University where she met her husband Bill. They quickly married in 1953 before Bill was sent to serve in the Vietnam War. Kitty was able to travel with him to various countries, including Germany, where she gave birth to their son, Victor. After returning to the states, Kitty completed her degree in elementary education and taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade for 30 years. Kitty & Bill moved into our community in 2013 to be closer to their son, who is also in the Army. Her favorite part about living here? The friendly people! She also gets to live close to her three granddaughters, all of whom are following in the family Army footsteps. Kitty is a kind, friendly, and fashionable woman in our community. We are thankful for her!

Earl grew up in Monongalia County in West Virginia, near Morgantown, on a farm. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 18 years old. He said serving as a Naval Officer for 20 years is his greatest accomplishment. He married his wife, Pauline, in 1947, and together they have raised a wonderful family. This month he turns 100! Help us in wishing him a very happy birthday.
