Assisted Living vs Independent Living

|

Harmony assisted living and Harmony independent living are two types of residential care options for seniors, each with its own set of benefits. Knowing the differences between the two types of living arrangements helps you decide which one is the right fit for you or your loved one.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide higher care and support for seniors who may require help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and medication management. These facilities offer 24-hour supervision, meals, and other services such as transportation and housekeeping. Seniors in assisted living often have their own private apartments or rooms, but they also have access to communal areas where they can socialize with other residents.

Assisted living is an excellent choice for seniors who require assistance with daily tasks but still want to maintain their independence. This type of living arrangement can also be beneficial for seniors who are at risk of falls, have mobility issues, or have chronic medical conditions that require monitoring.

Independent Living

Independent living communities are designed for seniors who can still live independently but would like access to amenities and services such as meals, housekeeping, and social activities. These communities typically offer private apartments and a range of on-site amenities, such as fitness centers, pools, and libraries. Seniors who choose independent living may do so because they want to downsize from their current home, live in a community with other seniors, or have access to a range of services and amenities without the maintenance and upkeep required in a traditional home.

Which Is Right for You?

Deciding between assisted living and independent living can be challenging, but it ultimately depends on your or your loved one's needs and preferences. If you or your loved one requires assistance with daily tasks or has medical needs that require monitoring, assisted living may be the better choice. However, if you or your loved one is still able to live independently but would like access to additional services and amenities, independent living may be a better fit.
